Robotics

The Fusion of Robotics,
Electronics, and Information Technology

TCDC offers Robotics at all levels. It uses both commercially available robot kits and makes its own robot sets as well. Through Robotics, the school aims to develop a pupil’s creativity, his coding skills and computational thinking skills.

The facilities for Computing and Robotics are more than substantial to meet the creativity needs of the students from pre-school to senior high school. In several grade levels, it is common to see students use more than one robot kit in their projects.

Students are introduced to the use of Microcontrollers at the higher grade levels.

A much-anticipated yearly Robotics Festival is held every February and universities and colleges and Science high-schools from Metro Manila travel to TCDC to watch the different contests and activities. Since it is open to the public, students and parents, and even grandparents participate in Robotics contests and activities.

At present, a documentary about TCDC’s unique approach to Robotics is being prepared by a government entity for showing on public television. Most of TCDC’s alumni go to the field of Engineering, Sciences, Nursing, and Aeronautics. Some have gone into Medicine and Law. Others have become Educators and now serve in the faculty.

Electronics and “Learning I.T. without Tears”

Through the years, the school has developed an Electronics program which offers Basic Electronics to Grade 9 students. In Grade 10, students work with Microcontrollers and Microprocessors. The students have won in Electronics and Robotics Contests sponsored by major companies. Teaching equipment for Electronics are constantly being developed through the school’s own R&D.

As early as Grade 6, students are already taught how to develop robots using Microcontroller. Computer programming is done in Assembly language.

A recent tie-up with a leading multi-national electronics company who sent some of its top engineers to teach new programming concepts to TCDC high school students has proven the wisdom of networking and capacity-building.
